How to use Bookmark Sync
Usage Instructions 1 : Syncing Bookmarks between Chrome, Edge, or Cross-Browser Sync
1. Installing the Extension:
The Bookmark UniSync extension is available for both Chrome and Edge. To install it:
-
On Edge, open the extension link and search for Bookmark UniSync.
-
On Chrome, open the extension link and search for Bookmark UniSync.
2. Registering an Account:
Since multiple users share the same server, account registration is required.
-
You must register with an email address.
-
It doesn’t need to be a real email (but if you ever need to recover your account, a verification code will be sent via email, so using a real one is recommended).
3. Logging into Your Account:
Once registered, log in with your newly created account.
-
The first thing you should do is export all local bookmarks to a file.
-
This ensures that even if something goes wrong or you decide to stop using the service, you can restore your original bookmarks from the file.
4. Syncing Bookmarks:
-
The first time, it’s best to manually click Upload to sync your bookmarks to the server.
-
After uploading, you can log in from another computer or browser with the same account, and retrieve the bookmarks you just uploaded.
Steps shown in the image (Edge is similar):
Usage Instructions 2 : Syncing Bookmarks from Safari to Chrome or Edge
Due to Safari's strict security limitations, an App-based approach is used to monitor bookmark changes. When a change is detected, the data is synced to the server, requiring users to download the App. The download link is provided here.
1. Installing the App:
-
After downloading the App, install it and open it.
-
Upon launching, the interface will appear as shown in the image.
2. Logging into Your Account:**
-
Enter your account and password, then click Log In.
-
Once logged in successfully, you will be prompted to select a file.
🔹 Important:
Make sure to select the Bookmark.plist file (located in Macintosh HD > Users > Your Username > Library > Safari).
-
The system will automatically navigate to this location for you.
-
(Ensure that you select the Bookmark.plist file—this step is crucial.) x3
3、Silent Syncing:
After logging in and selecting the Bookmark.plist file, the App will minimize to the taskbar. Whenever there is a change in Safari bookmarks, the updated bookmarks will be synced to the server for use on other devices.
4、Remaining Steps:
The remaining steps can refer to the plugin installation steps in Section One to install the Chrome or Edge extension for bookmark data synchronization.
Notes / Best Practices:
-
Due to Apple's strict security restrictions, using an App is a compromise solution. The App's only function is to monitor bookmark changes and has no other functionality.
-
Also due to Apple's strict security restrictions, it is currently not possible to sync newly added bookmarks from Chrome or Edge to Safari.
(Forcing modifications may cause iCloud sync issues—this has been tested, so please take caution!)
-
It is recommended to enable startup launch for the App.
-
If Safari bookmarks are modified while the App is not running, it won't detect changes, and bookmark data won't be uploaded.
-
To enable this, go to macOS Settings > General > Login Items, click Add, and select UniSync.app.
-
With the above settings, you no longer need to worry about bookmark changes or synchronization issues. The system will automatically sync your bookmarks at the appropriate time, allowing you to access them on other browsers and computers.
